Newborn Baby Photography Stockport has grown in popularity dramatically in recent years. The rush for parents to get the best newborn photos and have a baby photoshoot has become a priority.

Photographing babies….lay them down on a blanket and snap away, right?
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Newborn Baby Photography sessions are really tough despite what all the behind the scenes images may look like on Facebook and Instagram. The sessions are the most complex in the Photography world and need specific and in-depth training. I started out photographing babies who were older. I then moved on to the idea of Newborn Photography as I gained confidence. It didn’t take long for me to realise how difficult it is to pose a newborn baby. Recreating an image found when searching ‘Newborn Photography Pinterest’ really isn’t as straight forward as you would think. However being able to work with tiny newborn babies is an absolute honour. The more families I have the pleasure of meeting, the luckier I realise I am to call this my job!
Newborn Photography Training
Over the years I have trained with various top newborn photographers across the UK and overseas. One of my favourites includes the very talented Jillian Greenhill Photography, based in Dubai. I have worked incredibly hard to perfect the art of Newborn Photography. It is important to me that I am providing my clients with the best possible service. This includes effective and thorough training. Ensuring your Newborn Photographer is experienced and fully trained is paramount. It also allows you to relax during the newborn baby photography session knowing your baby is in safe hands.
What happens during a Newborn Baby Photo session?
I make my parents aware before their newborn baby photography session that the shoots can take between 2 and 4 hours. Often people wonder why it takes so long. It is all very dependent on your baby. All babies are very different to one another. Some sleep soundly throughout where as others are sensitive to touch and wake easily. Some also need feeding frequently. Even from birth newborn babies have their own personalities and therefore they dictate the progression and pace of the shoot.

The beautiful Hattie came to my Stockport photography studio for Baby Newborn Photographs just before Christmas. Mummy and Daddy, Hayley and Ben found me via Facebook recommendation. They travelled from Timperley in Altrincham and were such relaxed first time parents. Hattie was just 8 days old when she came and a dream to work with! She slept really well and had the most gorgeous head of hair. Hayley and Ben chilled out and watched Love Actually on the sofa as I snapped away. I love that new parents feel at ease when in my home studio.

Baby Cake Smash Stockport
Baby Cake Smash Stockport is the new way to celebrate your little one’s 1st birthday. Cake smashes are one of my most popular sessions and they are so much fun. Some people love the idea of a photoshoot with a cake and decorations; other parents opt for more simple images.
What is a Baby Cake Smash?
A Baby Cake Smash is a photo session with a cake in short. At the start of a 1st birthday shoot or cake smash I take some clean shot images. I recommend to parents that they bring an outfit for the clean portraits and then something different for the cake smash. For girls this will usually be a dress to start and then a tutu to follow. For boys, normally a shirt and trousers, followed by a naked chest and pants, or a little cake smash outfit. Beautiful Beatrix here had a gorgeous tutu and baby vest with ‘one’ across it and a matching headband. When it came to the cake smash element Beatrix wore just the tutu and headband to give a different look.
What do I need to bring to my Baby Cake Smash Stockport session?
All you need to bring to your session is your beautiful baby in a great mood! That’s no big ask, right?? I will call you before your photoshoot to go through everything. I always try to arrange a time for your Baby Cake Smash around your baby’s nap time. This means a happy little one and lovely baby cake smash photos. The cakes which come from the wonderful Janine at JanCara cakes in Stockport are all included in your package. I offer various set-ups and colour schemes so again your decorationa are all included too. I want the experience to be as stress-free for you as possible as life with a 1 year old can be challenging at the best of times.
What happens during the Baby Cake Smash photoshoot
After the clean potraits at the start of the session which can include sibling photos and family photos we move on to the Cake! Your baby can enjoy their special birthday enjoying a whole cake to themselves. Whether they choose to bash it, prod it, eat it…or simply ignore is their choice entirely. After all that fun the session ends with a splash in my little bath tub with bubble time too. It is the perfect way to celebrate your baby’s 1st birthday.
Cake Smash for baby girl
Beatrix came for her birthday session in December. She literally has the most piercing and beautiful blue eyes I think I have ever seen. You can’t help but be captivated by them. Beatrix and her mummy and daddy travelled from Marple in Stockport for their Baby Cake Smash session and when I showed them their images at their viewing session mummy’s eyes all welled up. That’s a job well done I think!

Professional family portrait photographers in the Stockport area are easy enough to find, but you want to ensure that you choose someone who will capture your family as you want them to be captured. For some families having their portrait taken is a special occasion, so choose wisely. Some families and photographer opt for a more ‘posed’ look, others (like myself) love to capture families quite naturally, but include group shots too. As all artists have their own unique style, so do photographers. Where will my Family Photoshoot take place?
If you book me for your session, I have a photography studio on the border of Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall. It is approximately 15 minutes drive from the centre of Stockport with onsite parking. I offer family portraits in the studio which are incorporated in to all of my newborn, baby and cake smash sessions as part of the packages. However, if you are looking at getting a family photoshoot my recommendation especially with young children is to have an outdoor session. Outdoor and Lifestyle Family photography shoots bring the best out of the children. It’s the one place where they become themselves as they don’t feel restricted. Some of my favourite family photographs are of families interacting with one another without even noticing you capturing the moment. These moments define you as a family.
What time of year is it best to have Professional Family Portraits in Stockport taken and when should I book?
All seasons are amazing to photograph for different reasons. The colours of Autumn and Spring are amazing, but equally the gorgeous light that you can get in Summer and Winter are like nothing else. Autumn is always a really busy period for outdoor family photoshoots for me. It’s that time of year that people start to think about Christmas presents for family members and want to get organised. If you know in advance that you would like a session then my advice would be to book it as early as possible. Spaces are limited and because of the demand for weekend sessions they book up quickly.
Where do the sessions take place?
I venture all over Stockport and South Manchester depending on where my families are based and where my clients want their sessions to take place. As a Stockport Photographer I am very fortunate to have so many lovely locations to use for my sessions practically on the doorstep. Bramhall Park, Lyme Park and Dunham Massey are fantastic venues and very popular but I am always happy to make a recommendation to suit you and your family circumstances. After my blog the other week on the importance of family photography in the home on a child’s self-esteem. I always explain after all that the worst that can happen if you don’t like the image is that you don’t buy it!

Autumn Toddler Photo Session with Noah!
Noah came dressed perfectly for his photographs. He wore a gorgeous chequed shirt that matched the colours in the park perfectly. For this particular session the location we decided on was Fogg Lane Park in Didsbury, Manchester. I haven’t been there to take photographs in years but it was a suggestion made to me by another client and I thought I would give it a whirl. As it would happen on this particular Sunday afternoon the rain started to come down fast but the colour were fantastic. So many autumnal browns, oranges and yellows! It really is such a beautiful time of year. Luckily by the time Noah arrived the rain had subsided slightly and Noah was happy enough to roam around getting messy in the leaves!
